How prepared are you for the new year to begin? Is it just another calendar page to turn or is there a sense of shedding the old and bringing on the new? The answer might depend on either how difficult or how satisfactory the last year was. In so many ways, life is unpredictable. The Bible tells us we can’t know with certainty what a day will bring and yet we are told to be good stewards, too. That means planning is also necessary. We’ve got to think ahead, cook meals, prepare for work, nurture relationships, take time to rest, and so much more.

Early in January sit down with your family to discuss the year’s calendar. At the same time, acknowledge there’s a need to prepare for life’s interruptions; those surprise events that drop in uninvited . . . because they will come. And yet, God is in control. He has promised to never leave us or forsake us. Whatever 2015 brings, trust that God is able to meet your every need.

The key to a positive year can be found in 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18  Be joyful always; pray continually; give hanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.
