Decide What it Means to Live Courageous

“To live courageously is to believe that your best days are not behind you. It’s to look ahead with expectancy, not anxiety. God specializes in new beginnings, and His promises have no expiration date.”                                          ― a Pastor from Belong Church

Is deciding to live courageous something you long to do? One month of the year is behind us. How did it go? Being courageous demands that we are brave enough to look at what lies ahead; even when we are afraid.

Joshua’s Story

Let’s look at Joshua’s life. He was a prime example of deciding to be courageous. Moses had died and Joshua was the one God appointed to take the Israelites into the promised land. Joshua had made up his mind to serve the Lord. No matter what. By faith, he chose to believe God would give him the courage needed to push fear aside and enter the promised land.

Be strong and courageous, for you shall give this people possession of the land which I swore to their fathers to give them. Only be strong and very courageous. Joshua 1:6-7a NASB2020

Your Story

Does it take courage to forgive? It sure does. Does it take courage to speak the truth in love? Definitely. When was the last time you remember being courageous? Was it with a close family member, a coworker, a job interview, or elsewhere? Standing strong after a serious medical diagnosis won’t be easy. And climbing a ladder to bring a neighbor’s cat off the roof will require bravery. Shouldn’t your voice matter when conflict arises? It’s easier to keep the peace and walk away but that won’t resolve the underlying issue or relationship.

Learn to Lean on the Lord

Courage comes in many different ways. But if we lean on the Lord, He will give us boldness and wisdom to feel safe when we open our mouths; and grace will lead the way. Be confident that the Lord is beside you and the Holy Spirit is at work.

Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous! Do not be terrified nor dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:9 NASB2020

Where is Your Promised Land?

Do you believe your best days lie ahead? Where might God be leading you to discover the promised land He wants you to possess? Is there a dream waiting to be achieved? Or a goal that you’ve pushed aside because it seems too hard. Or a relationship that needs rebuilding? Will you trust as Joshua did and leave fear behind? We’ve all got a promised land prepared for us to take hold of.

Prayer:

Lord, give us the courage to take hold of the life You’ve prepared for us. A life where we are instruments in Your hand and brave enough to take that next step forward. Because the Holy Spirit lives in us, we can enter the promised land, whatever it might be, and have the courage to overcome all fear. Amen
