Make Profitable New Year’s Resolutions

I believe New Year’s resolutions should be profitable. Unless there’s something to be gained, there’s no reason to make them. So what can we do to make this year’s resolutions more successful than last year’s?

A Very Profitable New Year’s Resolution

Rather than wanting to lose weight, or give up a couple hours of screen time, let’s aim for inner resolutions this year. By far, it’s more advantageous to one’s lifestyle success to be attentive to character growth. Inner resolutions prove profitable throughout the span of our lives and relationships.

When change is seen, those who know and love us will smile with approval. Thus, our resolutions become a rewarding experience. In our own power this might seem difficult, but with God’s empowering, all things are possible.

Fresh Starts are Deliberate

January, the start of a new year, sparks a desire for a fresh start. So let’s be deliberate. Begin by examining the inner self. Discover those traits that are upsetting others and displeasing God. All character building begins with this basic awareness. Next, define the desired goal.

Make a plan. When prompted to lie, tell the truth, no matter how sordid, in a humble way. Choose to keep your word. Prove to yourself, and those who depend on you, that you are a trustworthy individual. Stop and think when anger rises. Replace wrath with a soft answer. Seek professional help if needed. Where repetitive cycles of negative behaviors or attitudes have set down deep roots, God is still at work. Remember there is a better way to respond. For every negative habit there is a positive solution. Stay the course.

When the going gets tough, be persistent. Be deliberate. Remember the resolution made. Invest as much time as it takes to bring lasting change into place and experience the profitable results.

Respect Self and Others

To accurately respect our God-created humanity we must know our Creator God. Who is He and who does He say we are. His thoughts differ greatly from the world’s. To berate ourselves is to accuse God of making a mistake when He formed us in our mother’s womb. That is a lie.

Yes, life doesn’t always seem fair, but God makes no mistakes. We are all designer originals, and created for purpose. Our job is to uncover that “good” purpose.

Only when know our true worth, can we appreciate others as God wants us to. Then respect rises up and disrespect shuts down. Insult cycles are halted as a heart of empathy grows.

Reap the Profits: Improved Character Multiplies Harmony

As God enables us to keep growing in Christlikeness, harmony multiplies in our homes. Positive character traits become fertile ground for loving relationships. Forgiveness is modeled and kindness births abundant good. Listening is practiced. Prayers are spoken. Discipline is fair and age appropriate.

Bottom line, the golden rule is acted out. From the lips of Jesus we read: “So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets.” Matthew 7:12

Prayer: Lord, bless Your beloved people in the New Year. Give us the determination to see our resolutions materialize. When doubts rise, silence the Devil’s accusations. Quiet all fear of change. Help us stay the course. Lead us to profitable results that will glorify Your name and add deeper peace to our lives. May Your faithful promises fuel our days with hope. Amen
